Ukraine wins six medals on the first day of the Invictus Games 2023

On the first day of the Invictus Games 2023, the Ukrainian team won six medals: one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

In particular, Ukraine has five medals in the athletics competition:
- gold - Oleksandr Makovei in the shot put in the IF8 category;
- silver - Volodymyr Hera in the shot put in the IF7 category;
- silver - Mykola Zaritskyi in the discus throw in the IF1 category;
- bronze - Vadym Maznichenko in the shot put in the IF6 category;
- bronze - Volodymyr Tovkys in the discus throw in the IF2 category.
In addition, Maksym Zubov won another silver medal for Ukraine in the IP6 powerlifting category.
Ukrainian paramedic Yulia "Tyra" Paievska also competed in the powerlifting event and took 12th place in the IP3-IP5 class among women. The participant lifted 30 kg in the second attempt, but failed to cope with 40 kg in the third and finished the competition with a score of 25.74 kg.
Ukrainians also took part in wheelchair rugby competitions as part of the Unconquered team, along with representatives of the UK, USA and South Korea. They defeated Italy but lost to Great Britain. They still have a match against France to play.
This year's Invictus Games are being held in Dusseldorf, Germany.
