Twenty-nine settlements flooded as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP
Due to the Russians' explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on 6 June, 29 settlements were flooded. Overnight, the water in Kherson rose by one metre. It is expected to continue to rise throughout the day.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, reports this.
Nineteen of the flooded settlements are located on the territory controlled by Ukraine, and ten are under temporary occupation.
Rescue services, police, and volunteers are evacuating the local population around the clock. As of 4 p.m., more than 1,854 people have been evacuated.
Almost 1,600 rescuers and police officers and about 300 units of special equipment are working in the region.
The Minister ordered an estimate of the environmental threat from the flooding.
It will be recalled that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the Russian occupation "authorities" are not trying to help the locals affected by flooding in the temporarily occupied territories, and Ukraine will appeal to international organisations.
