The Washington Post: US aid strategy for Ukraine in 2024 won't include retaking lost territory

Washington, D.C., USA (Svidomi) — The United States does not include the return of the occupied territories in its 2024 aid plan for Ukraine, The Washington Post reports, citing its own sources.

The Biden administration plans to focus support on repelling new Russian attacks and strengthening the military and economy in the long term.

"It’s pretty clear that it will be difficult for them to try to mount the same kind of major push on all fronts that they tried to do last year," a senior administration official said.

The US plans for Ukraine are to hold its ground on the battlefield and move to a different trajectory by the end of 2024, becoming much stronger.

"The U.S. planning is part of a multilateral effort by nearly three dozen countries backing Ukraine to pledge long-term security and economic support," the journalists say.

Each country is preparing a document with commitments to help Ukraine for up to ten years. The US Presidential Administration hopes to unveil its own 10-year commitment in the spring of 2024.

It will be recalled that on January 12, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a 10-year security agreement.
