The US remotely deleted secret drone software before it crashed into the Black Sea

The United States remotely deleted the secret software of the MQ-9 Reaper drone before it crashed into the Black Sea to prevent Russia from collecting classified information — CNN reports.

Measures to remove the software were taken as soon as Russian fighters resorted to aggressive actions.

The US believes that there is a possibility that they will not be able to find the drone after it goes down.

"We've done everything we can to minimise any intelligence value that could be gained from the fact that someone else took possession of this drone," said National Security Council spokesman John Kirby.

Meanwhile, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that the Russians would try to find and retrieve the drone from the bottom.
