The United States urged its citizens to leave Belarus immediately due to the closure of checkpoints

The United States Embassy in Belarus has called on Americans to leave the country immediately due to the closure of checkpoints on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.

This was reported by the press service of the US Embassy in Belarus.

The governments of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia have announced that further closure of border crossings is possible.

"Do not travel to Belarus due to Belarusian authorities’ continued facilitation of Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine,... the risk of detention, and the Embassy’s limited ability to assist U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to Belarus," the statement reads.

The Embassy advises US citizens to consider other ways to leave Belarus through the open border crossings with Lithuania and Latvia or by plane. The embassy also stresses that Americans are not allowed to enter Poland by land from Belarus.

As a reminder, on August 18, the Lithuanian government closed two of the six border crossings with Belarus.
