The United States is providing Ukraine with a $200 million military aid package
The United States will provide Ukraine with $200 million in military aid. This may be the last aid package due to the actions of the US Congress.
US President Joe Biden announced this during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
The military aid package will include:
- air defence ammunition,
- air defence system components,
- additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems,
- artillery ammunition (including 155 mm and 105 mm),
- High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile missiles,
- anti-armor munitions, small arms ammunition,
- demolition equipment, HESCO barriers,
- spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training and transportation.
At the same time, Biden condemned the actions of the Congress, which is blocking further US assistance. He called it "the wrong signal to US partners around the world". He recalled how Russia "celebrated" the Republicans' blocking of aid last week.
"If Russian propagandists are glorifying you, maybe it's time to rethink what you are doing. Today, Ukraine's freedom is on the line," Joe Biden said in his speech at the press conference.
Biden also commented on potential migration policy changes, namely the security issue on the border with Mexico. He said he was ready to compromise with Republican lawmakers.
"Compromise is how democracy works. Holding Ukraine funding hostage and attempting to force through an extreme Republican partisan agenda on the border is not how it works. We need real solutions," the US president said.
President Zelenskyy, in turn, noted that "all the signals in Congress were more than positive".
"But we know that there are words, and there is a concrete result. We will hope for good results," Volodymyr Zelenskyy added at the press conference.
It will be recalled that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the United States on December 11 for a working visit. He has already met with Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Brown.
On December 12, Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed financial aid to Ukraine with US members of Congress and senators, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson.
