The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom rules in favour of Ukraine in the case of the USD 3 billion Eurobonds
The United Kingdom Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Ukraine in the case of the USD 3 billion Eurobonds, also known as the "Yanukovych debt" — the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.
Russia initiated this case. According to the court's decision, the case should be sent for a full trial in an open session.
The court wants to consider Ukraine's position on Russia's threats to use force back in 2013 to force Ukraine to issue bonds. According to the judge, these threats should be considered in the context of the actual use of force in 2014.
At this stage, the Supreme Court did not consider the facts of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as the appeal case had started earlier. However, the judge believes Russia's further behaviour cannot be ignored.
