The High Court of London dismisses Yevgeny Shvidler's claim to lift sanctions against him

The High Court of Justice has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Russian businessman Yevgeny Shvidler to lift sanctions against him.
This is stated in the court's decision.
In the lawsuit, Shvidler claimed that the sanctions were "discriminatory" and caused "significant hardships" to him.
The United Kingdom imposed sanctions on the businessman in March 2022 over his ties to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich and Evraz plc, a company that works for Russia's mining sector. Shvidler was a non-executive director at the company.
"He says that the only directors of Evraz sanctioned by reason of their role on its Board are of Russian ethnicity. None of the non‐Russian directors have been designated by reason of their role on the Board," the court's case reads.
Lawyer James Eadie, who represented the British government, called there was "absolutely no evidence" to suggest that.
The court ruled in favour of the British government.
