They note that Wagner's mercenaries are fighting in Ukraine, in particular, they took an active part in the capture of Soledar. They also operate in Libya, the Central African Republic (CAR), Mali, and Sudan.

"The Wagner Group’s activities are a threat for the people in the countries where they operate and the European Union. They endanger international peace and security as they do not operate within any legal framework. The EU is determined to continue taking tangible action against breaches to international law. We stand up for human rights everywhere," said Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

All sanctioned persons will have their assets frozen, and EU citizens and companies will be prohibited from providing them with funds. In addition, individuals against whom sanctions have been imposed are also banned from entering the EU.

On February 25, the EU adopted the tenth package of sanctions. Restrictions were imposed on another 87 individuals and 34 organisations. The sanctions include four Iranians involved in developing and supplying drones used by Russia against Ukraine.

The sanctions lists also include Russian financial organisations, such as the Russian National Wealth Fund, the Russian National Reinsurance Company, Alfa-Bank, Rosbank, and Tinkoff Bank.
