The European Gymnastics votes against the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to their competitions

The EG wrote about this in its X.

The International Gymnastics Federation allowed Russian and Belarusian gymnasts to compete under neutral status from the beginning of 2024.

In response to this decision, the European Gymnastics planned to review sanctions against Russia and Belarus. In the end, European Gymnastics delegates did not allow athletes and officials from these two countries to participate.

The continental rhythmic gymnastics competitions will be crucial for athletes' qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games, held under the auspices of European Gymnastics. Russians and Belarusians will not be able to participate in this qualifying competition.

However, they will still be able to compete in athletic gymnastics and trampoline jumping in a "neutral status". The International Gymnastics Federation will organise these competitions.

It will be recalled that Ukrainian media outlet Babel has found that about half of the Russian athletes allowed to compete by the International Fencing Federation support Russia's war against Ukraine.
