The European Commission recommends freezing about €7.5 billion for Hungary

The European Commission recommends not to allocate 65% of payments under three main programs from the EU fund to Hungary due to violation of the principles of the rule of law.

EU Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn said that despite Hungary's proposed measures to eliminate shortcomings, the European Commission recommends suspending the allocation of funds.

Hahn added that Hungary has time until November 19. The EU Council will make a final decision within a month. Approval requires a "qualified majority."
