The British Tennis Association (LTA) allows Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions

The Association announced this on its website.

In 2022, the LTA banned all Russian and Belarusian players from attending its events.

"As stated then, we wanted to send ‘a clear signal to the Russian and Belarusian states that their actions in Ukraine are the subject of international condemnation’. We continue to think that this was the right course of action and would like to thank all those who supported it," the LTA wrote.

However, they noted that due to the ban imposed last year, the World Tennis Tour (ATP) and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) imposed their own restrictions on the British and threatened to terminate their membership if the ban is repeated in 2023.

The LTA said that its position on supporting the people of Ukraine remains unchanged, and that Russians and Belarusians should sign declarations of neutrality.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba wrote that Wimbledon's decision was immoral and called on the UK government to deny visas to their players.

"Has Russia ceased the aggression or atrocities? No, it's just that Wimbledon decided to accommodate two accomplices in the crime," the Minister commented.
