Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg arrives in Kyiv

The President of Ukraine met with members of the Ukraine War Environmental Consequences Work Group.

This was announced by the Head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Yermak.

The group will work to assess the environmental consequences of the war and develop recommendations for punishing Russia for environmental crimes.

Former Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the European Parliament Heidi Hautala, President of Ireland in 1990-1997 Máire Mhic Róibín and Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg arrived in Ukraine as part of the International Work Group.

Zelenskyy drew attention to the consequences of the Kakhovka HPP dam explosion, which residents of the Kherson region have faced. This Russian crime also caused significant damage to the agricultural sector and biodiversity of the region.

Thunberg emphasised that she would engage representatives of environmental NGOs to draw attention to the environmental consequences of the war.
