Slovak PM Fico says his country opposes Ukraine's accession to NATO
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, a pro-Russian politician, has said that his country is against Ukraine's accession to NATO.
He said this on the air of the Slovak radio InfoVojna.
"I'm speaking on behalf of the political party that dominates the Slovak government, I'm telling you on our behalf that we will not agree to Ukraine's membership in NATO because it is the beginning of World War III," the Slovak prime minister said.
In his opinion, Ukraine's accession to the Alliance will not happen. Therefore, Fico added that as long as he had influence on Slovak politics, he would veto the decision to join.
At the same time, he has said, Slovakia supports Ukraine's European integration path.
Robert Fico is the head of the Social Democracy (Smer — SD) party. He has served as the country's prime minister for the third time. In 2022, he was accused of creating a criminal organisation.
