Slovak carriers block truck traffic through the Vyšné Nemecké checkpoint
Slovak hauliers have blocked truck traffic through the Vyšné Nemecké checkpoint in support of Polish protesters.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reports.
"Vyšné Nemecké is adjacent to the Ukrainian checkpoint Uzhhorod.
Currently, there are about 300 trucks on the territory of Slovakia in front of the Vyšné Nemecké checkpoint heading towards Ukraine. Cars and buses can pass through.
Last week, the Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia (UNAS) blocked the Vyšné Nemecké border crossing to support their Polish colleagues who want to return the permit system for Ukrainian carriers. It was a preventive action. The carriers waited seven days for a response. And without a reply, they threatened to block the Vyšné Nemecké checkpoint completely.
Before that, European Commission spokesperson Adalbert Jahnz said it was legally impossible to return the permit system for Ukrainian carriers to operate in the EU. During the trilateral talks, delegations from Poland, Ukraine and the European Commission worked out a solution to unblock the crossing and handed it over to the protesters.
Earlier, Svidomi explained what the Polish protesters are demanding and why the parties cannot reach an agreement.
