Six states invited to join BRICS

On August 24, Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, invited Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to join the BRICS. 

He made the announcement on X (Twitter). 

"The five BRICS members have agreed on guidelines, standards, criteria and procedures for the expansion process," Ramaphosa wrote.

The invited countries will be able to become full members of the BRICS from January 1, 2024. 

It will be recalled, the BRICS summit started in Johannesburg, South Africa, on August 22 to discuss the expansion of the union and the policy on the use of local currencies.
