Russians launch massive attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure with 55 missiles and 21 drones

Air defence forces shot down 37 Kalibr and Х-101/Х-555 cruise missiles, two guided missiles and 20 Shahed attack drones. 

Energy facilities in the Lviv, Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia and Ivano-Frankivsk regions were attacked. DTEK reported that Russians attacked three thermal power plants at night. The TPP equipment was damaged.

Russians attacked the Kyiv region with missiles and Shahed drones. Private houses, garages, and power grids were damaged. The Vyshhorod district was partially left without electricity.  In the Brovary district, civilian infrastructure caught fire, and two people got injured by rocket fragments. 

Russia attacked Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, with Х-101/Х-555 missiles. According to the Kyiv Military Administration, the city's air defence destroyed the missiles. There were no casualties.  

Russians shelled Zaporizhzhia. They hit 15 residential buildings, educational institutions, a hospital, a fire station, and a civilian infrastructure. There were no casualties. 

In Kherson, Russians shelled the railway station and energy infrastructure. The train traffic is temporarily restricted. According to the Kherson Military Administration, the city was partially left without electricity. 

In the Kirovohrad region, in the centre of Ukraine, Russians attacked an energy facility in the Oleksandriia district. Thirteen residential buildings and 30 garages were damaged. An 8-year-old child got injured by glass during the shelling. 

In the Vinnytsia region, Russians hit a power facility. There were no casualties. Emergency services are working to extinguish the fire. 

Russians damaged energy infrastructure with a missile attack in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. There were no casualties. 

Russians attacked two energy facilities in the Stryi and Chervonohrad districts in the Lviv region. Emergency services are extinguishing fires at the sites. There were no casualties. 

In the Poltava region, Russians hit an energy infrastructure facility. There were no casualties. 

Russians shelled Kharkiv on May 8. Five people were injured. Among them are three boys, one is in serious condition. Also, at night in the Kharkiv region, air defence forces shot down two Shahed drones. 

NPC Ukrenergo reported that power outages are expected throughout Ukraine on May 8 in the evening. Ukraine is seeking assistance from other countries to stabilise the power system.
