Russians launch active offensive at Kupiansk and Lyman directions
The Russian army has recovered from its losses and launched an active offensive near Makiivka in the Donetsk region and in the Kupiansk direction in the Kharkiv region. Heavy fighting is ongoing.
This was reported by Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ukrainian Army, Military Media Centre quoted him as saying.
According to Syrskyi, the main goal of the Russian army is the defeat of the Ukrainian troops, the encirclement of Kupiansk (Kharkiv region) and reaching the Oskil River.
"Every day, the enemy carries out dozens of attacks by assault groups supported by armoured vehicles and conducts heavy mortar and artillery fire on our positions," said the Commander of the Ukrainian Army.
Syrskyi noted that the Ukrainian military was prepared for such a scenario and was giving "a worthy rebuff to the enemy". The Russians have not made any significant progress.
It will be recalled that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on October 13, the Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled more than 20 Russian attacks towards Kupiansk.
