Russians change the names and surnames of deported children, which complicates the search for them

This is stated in the analytical report "Forced Deportation of Children in the Russian Federation" carried out by the Eastern Human Rights Group and the Institute for Strategic Studies and Security.

In particular, Russian guardians give children their own surname and patronymic and change their names to those they prefer.

Along with adoption, children in Russia are subjected to forced passportization. The Russian Federation was afraid to leave orphans with Ukrainian birth certificates and allow Russian citizens to adopt children from other countries, so they only introduced a separate category of citizens who could obtain Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure.

The Russians select only perfectly healthy children for deportation because Russian guardians often returned adopted children who were found to have diseases. They were then left in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
