Russian weapons have over a thousand foreign components - Yermak-McFaul Group

Russian weapons and equipment used against Ukraine contain 1,057 foreign components.

This is stated in a document developed by the Andrii Yermak and Michael McFaul International Working Group on Russian Sanctions.

These components were produced by 155 companies. Most of the components were produced by American companies.

In particular, most of the components are produced by the American companies Analog Devices, Texas Instruments, Microchip Technology, Intel Corporation, AMD, German Infineon Technologies and Korean Samsung.

In 2022, exports of critical components from the United States to Russia manufactured by Intel Corporation exceeded $700 million (previously, it was $500 million - ed.).

The foreign components are used in a wide range of weapons: Iskander-K and Kalibr missiles, Orlan and Corsair drones, armoured vehicles, artillery, T-72 tanks, Tornado missiles, Typhoon vehicles, helicopters, and radar stations.

Russia gets these mainly from China, but there are sellers in the EU, South Korea, Vietnam and Türkiye.

The authors of the study noted that despite the sanctions, imports of such goods did not stop. In April-May 2022, import volumes fell slightly but recovered to levels comparable to trade before the full-scale Russian invasion.
