Russian shelling increases the risk of accidents at nuclear facilities — IAEA Director General

Rafael Grossi says the risk of accidents at nuclear facilities has increased, because the normal operation of nuclear power plants requires external power supply.

In particular, he notes that due to the Russian attacks on November 15, Khmelnytsky NPP lost access to the power grid for 9 hours, which forced it to temporarily use diesel generators as a backup source of energy.

Rivne NPP also lost connection with one of its power lines.
