Russian shelling in Kharkiv region leaves 12 civilians injured, two dead

On the night of October 21, Russia launched missiles of various types, Shahed-type combat drones and unidentified drones at Ukraine. The Air Defence Forces reported the downing of 59 Russian UAVs in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Sumy, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Chernihiv and Poltava regions.

In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, Russia shelled Kharkiv, Novoplatonivka, and Bohuslavka. 13 residential buildings, 14 non-residential buildings, 17 cars, and a petrol station were damaged. A residential building was on fire. Twelve civilians were injured and two were killed.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, south-central Ukraine, Russians shelled the communities of Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovsk, Nikopol and Kryvyi Rih. A private house, two outbuildings, infrastructure, a hotel, five multi-storey buildings, a cultural facility, a bank, two shops and 14 cars were damaged. Four civilians, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured in a rocket attack on Kryvyi Rih. 

In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, Russia shelled Kramatorsk, Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Siversk, Sloviansk, Toretsk, Shevchenko, Dachne, Illinka, Novoselydivka, and Novotroitske. Twenty-four residential buildings, an industrial facility, two shops, four administrative buildings, an educational institution, and 15 garages were damaged. Three civilians were wounded.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russian army struck at Zaporizhzhia, Lobkove, Piatikhatky, Novodarivka, Novodanilivka, Mala Tokmachka, Huliaipole, Malynivka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, and Levadne. Residential buildings and infrastructure were damaged. The regional military administration reports of at least seven casualties in the Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia.

In the Kyiv region, bordering Russia to the north, the roof of a multi-storey residential building was damaged and an apartment was partially destroyed as a result of the falling debris from downed drones. Windows were smashed in two high-rise buildings. Three cars, a private house and a garage were damaged. A fire broke out at the market and a field was on fire. In Kyiv, capital of Ukraine, falling debris caused a fire on the roof of a private residential building, damaging a window and wall decoration in a high-rise building. One civilian suffered injuries. 

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, Russians used cannon artillery near Balka Zhuravka.

In the Mykolaiv region, south of Ukraine, Russia shelled the Kutsurub community and the water area of the Ochakiv community. The regional military administration reported no casualties.

A fire broke out in the Odesa region as a result of a missile attack on port infrastructure, a major seaport in the south-west of the country. Dry grass and an abandoned building caught fire in the Odesa district due to the fall of rocket fragments. The regional military administration reported no casualties. 

In the Sumy region, a major seaport in the south-west of the country, Russians attacked the Sumy, Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivska, Shalyhyne, Esman, Seredyna-Buda communities, and Romny district. Two critical infrastructure facilities, an apartment building, six private residential buildings, three cars and a low-pressure gas pipeline were damaged. Several settlements were cut off from electricity as a result of the attack. One civilian was killed.

In the Kherson region, south of Ukraine, partially occupied since 2022, the Russian army attacked Kherson, Komyshany, Bilozerka, Stanislav, Krasnyi Maiak, Beryslav, Novovorontsovka, Zmiivka, Zelenivka, Shyroka Balka, Novokairy, Stepanivka, Zymivnyk, Rozlyv, Dudchany, Sadove, Antonivka, Romashkove and Kozatske. Two multi-storey buildings, 23 private houses, an outbuilding and private cars were damaged. Three people were wounded.

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the nort, a residential building burned down and a car was damaged as a result of Russian shelling in the village of Zhovid.
