Russian missile violates Polish airspace

Poland (Svidomi) — During the morning attack on Ukraine, a Russian missile violated Polish airspace. The rocket was in Polish airspace for 39 seconds, according to the Armed Forces Operational Command of Poland.

A Russian missile violated Polish airspace at 4:23 a.m. on March 24. It was one of the cruise missiles fired by the Russians to attack Ukrainian cities in the west of the country.

The missile entered the airspace near the town of Ocerdów in Lublin Voivodeship, east of Poland and approximately 50 kilometres from the border with Ukraine. It was visible on military radar the entire time.

Jacek Goryszewski, spokesperson for the Armed Forces Operational Command of Poland, said there was no order to shoot down the missile. The Polish military tracked the missile's trajectory, and it stayed in Polish airspace for a short time.

"The use of fighter jets was also out of the question, as the missile was not moving deep into the country's territory," the spokesperson added.

The cruise missile was flying at an altitude of 400 metres at 800 km/h. It flew two kilometres and left the country's airspace.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland demands explanations from the Russian Federation concerning "another violation of the country's airspace".

"First of all, we call on the Russian Federation to stop terrorist air attacks on the people and territory of Ukraine, to end the war and to deal with the country's internal problems," the Ministry added.

Russia attacked Ukraine last night with 29 X-101/X-555 cruise missiles and 28 Shahed drones. Ukraine's air defence systems shot down 43 air targets: 18 missiles and 25 drones in the Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kyiv, Volyn and Lviv regions.
