Russian government declines UN request for access to the Kherson region's left bank after the Kakhovka HPP explosion

The Government of the Russian Federation has rejected a UN request for access to the temporarily occupied left bank of the Kherson region, which was affected by the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP.
The UN announced this in a statement.
The organisation says it will continue to work to find the necessary access and calls on Russia to act in accordance with its obligations under international humanitarian law.
"Aid cannot be denied to people who need it. The UN will continue to do all it can to reach all people – including those suffering as a result of the recent dam destruction – who urgently need life-saving assistance, no matter where they are," the statement said.
It will be recalled that on June 13, Russia did not provide security guarantees for the UN mission, which was ready to help residents of the left bank of the Kherson region.
