Russian drone strike in Sumy kills three civilians, including a child

On the night of October 22, Russia launched 60 combat drones of various types against Ukraine. The Air Defence Forces reported the downing of 42 combat drones in the Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Kherson and Kharkiv regions. Another 10 drones lost radar contact. 

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians attacked Sumy with Shahed-type combat drones. Private houses were damaged. One civilian was injured and three died, including a child. In total, the Russian army fired 45 times at Sumy, Mykolaivka, Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Seredyna-Buda and Znob-Novhorod communities, damaging households and property. 

In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russians shelled Senkove and Novoplatonivka. One civilian was injured. 

In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, the Russians launched 2,697 attacks on Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Siversk, Mykolaivka, Novoukrainka and Yantarne. Twenty-three residential buildings, an educational institution, fourteen outbuildings, two garages, a shop and a trade pavilion were damaged. Five civilians were injured and four died, including a child. 

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, south-central Ukraine, the Russians shelled Nikopol, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka and Myrove communities. Two private houses were destroyed, sixty-six private houses, seven outbuildings, eight power lines and a gas pipeline sustained damage. One civilian was injured. 

In the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russians launched a missile attack on Zaporizhzhia. Three people were killed and 19 were injured, including one child. In total, the Russian army struck nine settlements in the region with 303 missiles, damaging 77 residential buildings and infrastructure facilities. 

In the Mykolaiv region, south of Ukraine, the Russians shelled the Kutsurub community and Ochakiv with FPV combat drones. A private house was damaged. The regional military administration reports no casualties. 

In the Kherson region, south of Ukraine, partially occupied since 2022, the Russians shelled Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Komyshany, Inzhenerne, Dniprovske, Inhulets, Chornobaivka, Poniativka, Kizomys, Bilozerka, Stanislav, Mykilske, Beryslav, Chervonyi Maiak, Novovorontsovka, Kachkarivka, Respublikanets, Novokairy, Novoberyslav, Tomaryne, Shliakhove and Zolota Balka. Twelve private houses, garages, an outbuilding, a gas pipeline, a water pipeline, private cars, a bus, an ambulance and agricultural machinery were damaged. Nine civilians sustained injuries. 

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians shelled Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Horodnia communities. Four civilians were injured.
