Russia upgrades Shahed attack drones to counter Ukraine's air defence system

Russia is upgrading its Shahed attack drones for attacks on Ukrainian industry to counter Ukraine's air defence system.

Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat said this during a telethon.

"They are being developed to be more resistant to electronic warfare. Even if there is an impact on the Shahed drone, it may lose connection with the satellite for a while. However, when it leaves the area of electronic warfare, it restores communication," Ihnat commented.

He also emphasised that Shahed UAVs are highly accurate weapons. They can fly long distances at slow speeds, so they are dangerous and must be destroyed.

Russia is also using special tactics with Shaheds, launching them on different routes to distract Ukrainian air defence.

It will be recalled that in August, Ukraine provided the G7 countries with evidence of Iran's use of European components for the production of Shahed drones.
