Russia ramps up attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities: 15 regions affected, 10-year-old boy wounded

On the morning of August 26, the Russian army launched drones, cruise missiles and hypersonic air-launched ballistic missiles in 15 regions of Ukraine. Electricity transmission operator Ukrenergo introduced emergency power outages to stabilise the system due to damage to power facilities in several regions. The massive attack resulted in injuries and deaths.

In the Kyiv region, central and northern Ukraine, Russians targeted infrastructure facilities. One civilian was wounded in the attack. Private houses in four districts also suffered damage.

In Lutsk, northwestern Ukraine, two Russian attacks damaged an apartment building and an infrastructure facility. At least one civilian died and five others suffered injuries.

In the Poltava region, central part of Ukraine, the Russians hit an industrial facility. Five civilians sustained injuries as a result of the shelling.

In the Mykolaiv region, south of Ukraine, three residents suffered injuries as a result of the morning Russian shelling. Russians also fired on the Kutsurub and Ochakiv communities on August 25.

One civilian died in a rocket attack in the Zhytomyr region, north-west of Ukraine. Residential buildings and critical infrastructure have also been damaged.

In the Odesa region, south of Ukraine, four civilians received injuries as a result of the Russian attack, including a 10-year-old boy. Private houses and cars were damaged due to falling rocket debris.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, south-central Ukraine, a massive rocket attack killed one civilian and wounded another. A dozen houses and outbuildings were damaged in the Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih districts. On August 25, Russians shelled the Nikopol, Pokrovsk, Chervonohryhorivka, Myrove and Marhanets communities. The shelling damaged a private house, a three-storey building and a power line. 

The Russians hit an energy infrastructure facility and launched 287 attacks on settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022. Lobkove, Kamianske, Robotyne, Olhivske, Malynivka, Novoandriivka, Prymorske, Huliaipole, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka and Verkhnia Tersa suffered from massive shelling. The regional military administration received 12 reports of residential buildings and infrastructure being destroyed. One civilian received injuries in the shelling.

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians damaged energy facilities and fired 109 times at the Sumy, Bezdrytsk, Mykolaivka, Khotin, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Putivl, Nova Sloboda, Berezivka, Esman, Druzhba, Svesa, and Seredyna-Buda communities. The shelling killed three civilians and injured six others.

In the morning, explosions also hit Lviv, Kropyvnytskyi, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk, regions in the centre, east and west of the country.

In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russian army targeted an industrial facility in the Izium district in the morning. One person died and one was wounded. Over the day of August 25, Russians shelled Chuhuiiv, Senkove, Bilyi Kolodiaz, Odnorobivka, Velykyi Burluk, Novoosynove, Svitlychne and Sadovod. Infrastructure facilities, private and apartment buildings, utility facilities, power grids and agricultural premises suffered damage. The shelling caused at least four fires in open areas.

In the Donetsk region, located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine and partially occupied since 2014, the Russian army shelled Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Sloviansk, Ukraiinsk, Vozdvyzhenka, Lozove, Memryk, Novyi Komar and Shevchenko. Six residential buildings, an administrative building, a utility company, cars and communication infrastructure sustained damage. The shelling killed three civilians and wounded four others. 

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians opened fire on the Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Snovsk and Horodnianka communities. Border guards recorded 12 explosions. There were no casualties.

In the Kherson region, south of Ukraine, the Russian army shelled Kherson, Antonivka, Mykhailivka, Sadove, Stanislav, Beryslav, Bilozerka, Blahovishchenske, Vesele, Dudchany, Tomyna Balka, Komyshany, Tokarivka, Tiahynka, Novotiahynka, Prydniprovske and Chervonyi Maiak. The shelling killed one civilian and wounded 7 others. An educational institution, an administrative building, a bakery, residential blocks, 15 private houses, outbuildings and cars got damaged. 

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, the Russians assaulted Nevske, Makiivka, Stelmakhivka, Bilohorivka and Hrekivka with 77 drones, five times with multiple launch rocket systems and 35 times with cannon artillery. The regional military administration reported no casualties.
