Russia has not provided security guarantees for the UN mission, which is ready to help residents of the left bank of the Kherson region

The UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine, Denise Brown, says that Russians are blocking a UN mission that could provide humanitarian assistance to residents of the left bank of the Kherson region affected by the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP. 

Brown says that from an operational point of view, boats, staff and materials are ready to go.

"However, Russia has not yet provided the security assurances needed to cross to the left bank of the Dnipro River, including the town of Oleshky. These assurances are essential for the safety of our team and to prevent additional risks to the people we are trying to help," said Denise Brown.

Brown announced that the UN would continue to provide assistance in the Kherson region. 

On June 12, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the UN would send a special mission to the left bank of Kherson region if Russia provides security guarantees. 

Ukraine has already provided such guarantees.
