Russia, Belarus, and Iran invited to the Nobel Prize banquet

The Nobel Foundation has invited the ambassadors of all countries that have diplomatic missions in Sweden and Norway to attend the Nobel Prize ceremony. Among them are Russia, Belarus, and Iran.

The Nobel Foundation stated in a press release.

The Nobel Foundation believes that "this common approach promotes opportunities to convey the important messages of the Nobel Prize to everyone, and in [the] future, this practice will be common to the entire organisation."

Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the invitation.

"It is likely that on the day when the Russian ambassador will be sitting in a nice suit in the Stockholm Concert Hall, the Russian army will be committing more war crimes in the occupied Ukrainian territories, and Russian missiles will be destroying more residential areas in Ukrainian cities," wrote Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko.

In 2022, as a response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the Nobel Foundation did not invite Russian and Belarusian ambassadors.
