Romanian farmers ask the government to ban Ukrainian grain

Romanian farmers are asking the government to impose a national embargo on imports of Ukrainian grain.

This is reported by the Romanian edition of Digi24.

"The European Commission's decision not to extend the ban on grain imports obliges the Romanian government to make such a decision if we want to talk about the national agri-food sector," the Romanian Agricultural Alliance says in a statement.

By September 18, the Alliance wants to determine the list of goods to be embargoed.

"Our request in no way affects the transit of Ukrainian farm products through Romania to other destinations, as it is going on at present," the statement also reads.

It will be recalled that Slovakia has extended the ban on imports of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine until the end of the year. Poland and Hungary also imposed embargoes. At the same time, Bulgaria became the only country whose parliament lifted the import ban.
