Polish grain import ban cost Ukraine $143 million

Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, said at the Brussels Economic Forum that the EU Commission "will pay compensation to Polish farmers for nothing". In his opinion, it was "a bluff on the part of Polish farmers".

On April 15, Poland restricted exports of agricultural goods from Ukraine until June 30, 2023. Soon after, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria imposed restrictions. The countries explained their decision by the unstable market situation and Ukraine's failure to comply with European production standards.

Later, thanks to the European Commission's agreements, the unilateral restrictions on imports of Ukrainian products were lifted, allowing transit through these countries.

"Thanks to the intervention of the European Commission, we are getting some relief, but the problem remains unresolved," the Deputy Minister of Economy said.
