Polish government hopes to stop transit of Ukrainian grain and corn from 1 April

Warsaw, Poland (Svidomi) — Polish Minister of Economic Development and Technology Krzysztof Hetman tells Radio Lublin that the government hopes after April 1 the transit of Ukrainian grain will come to an end. The parties negotiate a licensing system for the trade of goods from Ukraine.

Negotiations on the licensing system have "progressed" and could be finalised this week, Krzysztof Hetmansaid said. The products in question are cereals, rapeseed, corn, sugar, poultry, eggs, soft fruits, and apples, among others.

He also notes that the demands of the farmers, who have been protesting for many weeks, have been met, but farmers still require restrictions on the supply of goods from Ukraine.

In addition, Hetman has said that due to the surplus of wheat and corn, the Polish authorities plan to provide subsidies for the grain sold.

" As for grain, I would also like to emphasise that we hope - we have talked to the Ukrainian side about this - that even the transit of grain, especially corn and wheat, will almost end after April 1," the minister added.

Svidomi has previously explained why farmers are protesting across the EU.
