Polish farmers unblock the border with Russia

Poland, (Svidomi) — With the Easter holidays coming up, Polish farmers are ending their blockade of the Russian border, Polish Radio reports.

Last Wednesday, March 20, farmers in the Warmian-Masurian (Warmińsko-mazurskie) Voivodeship blocked the border crossing, allowing one car per hour to pass through.

Jerzy Salitra from the Warmian–Masurian Chamber of Agriculture, said the protesters were surprised by how many goods were coming to the EU from Russia.

"The European Union has not yet decided to ban grain imports from Russia into the EU. Despite countries condemning Russia's attack on Ukraine, trade with Russia continues unabated. Many goods are being transported, including gas, and not just liquefied gas. One driver said he was transporting methane," he said.

The organisers of the rally said that the blockade of the border was suspended due to the upcoming Easter holidays. Earlier, the protesters were more determined, announcing a blockade of the Russian border for at least a month.

It remains to be seen whether the border with Ukraine will be unblocked during the holidays.
