PACE recognises the deportation of Ukrainian children and adults to Russia as genocide

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has adopted a resolution recognising the forced transfer of Ukrainian children and adults to Russia as genocide.

This was reported by the representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in PACE, Oleksii Honcharenko.

According to him, the resolution states that, according to international law, forced deportation is a sign of genocide, so all cases should be investigated, and all those involved should be held accountable.

The Parliamentary Assembly also welcomes the decision of the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Putin and Russian Children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova.

Honcharenko notes that not all PACE members are countries that have ratified the Rome Statute, under which the arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin was issued. Therefore, adopting this resolution expands the range of countries where the Russian president is officially considered a war crime suspect.

On March 17, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova.
