OSCE launches the "Moscow Mechanism" to deal with Russia's arbitrary detention of civilian Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories

Vienna, Austria (Svidomi) — The states of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe have activated the so-called "Moscow Mechanism" concerning Russia's arbitrary detention of civilian Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

The Moscow Mechanism is a formal procedure established within the OSCE that allows for deploying an international fact-finding mission to address a specific human rights issue in an OSCE region.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba explains that the activation of the OSCE's Moscow Mechanism will help investigate the crime and establish specific facts and its accurate scale.

Earlier, he called on the OSCE, the UN and other international organisations to use all available tools and, if necessary, create new ones to address the issue of Ukrainian civilian hostages and facilitate their release.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry added that Russia has captured thousands of Ukrainian citizens in the temporarily occupied territories. They are the most vulnerable group, and international attention is insufficient.
