Norway bans entry for cars with Russian licence plates

Norway has joined the ban on cars with Russian licence plates, but with its own adjustments. The changes will take effect on the night of October 3.

"The purpose of the historically broadest sanctions is to reduce Russia's ability to finance the war against Ukraine," the Norwegian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ban does not apply to citizens of Norway and the European Economic Area countries living in Russia, diplomatic vehicles, or vehicles entering the country on humanitarian grounds (medical treatment, death in the family, etc.).

It will be recalled that the European Commission has published recommendations to ban cars with Russian registration from entering the EU. Subsequently, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Finland decided to ban the entry of such cars.
