NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg believes that the Alliance should prepare for the possibility of a decades-long confrontation with Russia

Brussels, Belgium (Svidomi) — NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that the Alliance should prepare for the possibility of a confrontation with Russia that will last for decades, n-tv reports.

According to Stoltenberg, Russian aggression could spread to other countries if Russia wins the war against Ukraine. Therefore, the Alliance members must "rapidly build up their defence industry".

"If Putin wins in Ukraine, there is no guarantee that Russian aggression will not spread further. So supporting Ukraine now and investing in NATO's own capabilities is our best defence," Jens Stoltenberg said.

The Alliance needs to rebuild and expand our industrial base more quickly so that we can increase supplies to Ukraine and replenish our own stockpiles. It means shifting from slow peacetime production to rapid production as the "conflict" requires.

The NATO Secretary General is calling for more orders for European defence companies: in market economies, arms manufacturers need signed contracts to be able to increase production.

"As Russia devotes its entire economy to war, we must also do more for our security," he said.
