More than a million people protest against pension reform in France

Protests against the pension reform, which provides for an increase in the retirement age to 64 years, have been going on for nine days in France.

Reuters reported about it.

In Paris, during the demonstrations, a group of Black Bloc anarchists smashed windows and looted a McDonald's restaurant. Clashes erupted between them and riot police, when riot police drove back the anarchists with tear gas and stun grenades.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said 149 police officers were injured, and 172 people were arrested across the country. Dozens of protesters were also injured.

Small groups continued clashes with police in Paris late into the night, lighting bonfires throughout the city centre.

Police also used tear gas against protesters in other cities across the country.

In Bordeaux, protesters set fire to the main entrance to the city hall.

Trade unions called for more protests in the regions on March 28.
