"Monobank is one of the most attacked IT targets in the country. DDoS attacks are going on non-stop," — co-founder of the Ukrainian bank Horokhovskyi
Kyiv, Ukraine (Svidomi) — Ukraine's Monobank was subjected to a hacker attack with a load of 580 million requests late on January 21, the bank's co-owner Oleh Horokhovskyi wrote on his social media.
Attacks on the Ukrainian Monobank have been going on since January 19, 2023.
"I think Monobank is one of the most attacked IT targets in the country. DDoS attacks are going on non-stop... It's just outrageous. A new wave started while I was writing... We hold on!"
Horokhovskyi said.
DDoS attacks are directed at the bank's computer system using a large number of meaningless requests that overload it.
Monobank is Ukraine's first mobile bank operating without offices. The bank's app is one of the most popular financial applications in Ukraine. In September 2023, Monobank became https://t.me/OGoMono/1373 the second largest bank by the number of cards, overtaking the state-owned Ukrainian Oschadbank.
Earlier, in an interview with the Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainska Pravda, Oleh Horokhovskyi said that Monobank had a tool to combat DDoS attacks.
"You can see which IP addresses are providing the load and block them from following the link," said the co-owner of the Ukrainian bank.
This is not the first time Monobank has been subjected to hacker attacks. On December 12, 2023, Horokhovskyi already announced a DDoS attack on the bank, which was later successfully repelled.
This happened after a massive attack on the Ukrainian operator Kyivstar. 24 million subscribers lost access to mobile communications and the Internet. All services were restored by December 20. As a result of the attack, the company's IT infrastructure was "partially destroyed".
It will be recalled that Russian hackers from the Solntsepyok group claimed responsibility for the attack on Kyivstar. The attackers were in the system of the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar at least since May 2023.
