Ministry of Environment: Russia has caused at least USD 57 billion in damage to Ukraine's environment
Russia has imposed at least USD 57 billion in ecological destruction on Ukraine.
This was stated by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strilets.
Strilets states that over the past 2.5 months, the cost of damage caused by Russia has increased by almost USD 1.5 billion.
In his words, Ukraine is working on an environmental recovery plan for the post-war period.
The United Nations Environment Programme is working on a project to assess the consequences of the Kakhovka HPP explosion. After that, the mission will develop a recovery programme.
In addition, Ukraine is making efforts to restore ecosystems where possible. For example, national park workers have sown hundreds of hectares of the Kakhovka reservoir bottom with annual plants to protect against dust storms and the spread of alien species.
