Lithuania to close two checkpoints on the border with Belarus
The Lithuanian government has decided to reduce the number of checkpoints on the border with Belarus from six to four.
LRT writes about this, citing Deputy Interior Minister Arnoldas Abramavičius.
This decision was made due to the relocation of Wagner PMC mercenaries to Belarus.
"A decision will be made soon on the closure of two border checkpoints. If today there is basically one checkpoint in Poland (with Belarus – ed.), we have six. So one of the preventive measures would be to go from six checkpoints to four," Abramavicius said.
It is planned to close the Šumskas and Tverečius checkpoints.
The decision on this is to be made by the government.
Saulius Nekraševičius, deputy commander of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, said that closing some existing border crossing points on the border with Belarus would reduce the risk of threats.
