Latvian police to fine for "I am Russian" stickers on cars

The Latvian police have warned car owners that they will consider stickers that say "I am Russian" as support for Russia's war crimes against Ukraine. As a result, their owners may be fined.

The Latvian TV channel TV3 reported this.

On September 25, a post was published on the X platform showing a car registered in Latvia with the inscription "I am Russian" on the rear window.

The Latvian police responded by stating that the inscription "I am Russian" could glorify Russian aggression. Therefore, they promised to fine drivers who place such stickers on their cars.

"The State Police draws attention to the fact that, given the current geopolitical situation, Russia's war in Ukraine, as well as the general context, any glorification of military aggression is not allowed, including the unacceptable placement of potentially provocative inscriptions in Russian on vehicles," the police statement said.
