John Kirby: US no longer has money for new military support for Ukraine until Congress passes it

White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said that the United States no longer had money for new military support for Ukraine until Congress passed an annual support package.

He said this during a video briefing.

The President has signed the last security assistance package for which we have the authority to spend. That's it. We need additional support so that we can provide additional security assistance to Ukraine,

Kirby said.

According to him, every time the US allocates a military aid package, there is always a delay of several days, if not weeks, so not all the weapons from the latest military aid package have been delivered to Ukraine yet.

This will happen in the coming days and weeks. Beyond that, there is no funding,

Kirby said.

According to Kirby, in the absence of additional funding, there is no "quick fix" that could resume the allocation of new defence aid packages to Ukraine.

On December 7, a procedural vote on aid to Ukraine failed in the US Senate. The reason for this was the Republicans' demand to tighten the requirements for migrants and to secure the border more strongly. Representatives of both parties were working on a joint solution to this issue but did not manage to do so before the Christmas break. The Senate will resume its work on January 9.
