Japan to provide financial aid to Ukraine in the amount of $5.5 billion

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, announced this during a speech at a global forum in Tokyo, the Associated Press reports.

Kisida also announced that the anniversary of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine will be marked by the G7 online summit with the participation of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Japanese Prime Minister noted that Ukraine is still suffering from the Russian invasion, and its people need help to rebuild their daily lives and infrastructure, which was badly damaged by Russian attacks.

In his speech, Fumio Kishida admitted that he had taken the decisive step because of a "strong concern that Ukraine may be tomorrow's East Asia." Japan fears the possible impact of the war on East Asia, where the Chinese military is increasing tensions over Taiwan, which Beijing considers its territory.
