Jamala starts her concert in Liverpool with the story of Leniye Umerova, who was kidnapped by Russians in December 2022

Ukrainian singer Jamala has started a world tour with her new album Qırım. At the beginning of the concert in Liverpool, she told the story of Leniye Umerova, who was abducted by Russians in December 2022.

The Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea reported this.

In December 2022, Leniye Umerova left Kyiv for the temporarily occupied Crimea, as the health of her father, who lives on the peninsula, deteriorated. She crossed the Russian-Georgian border, after which she was illegally detained.

The security forces are holding Leniye Umerova in the territory of the Russian Federation and constantly fabricating charges against her to keep her under administrative arrest.

"She is one of at least 182 Ukrainian citizens from Crimea persecuted by the occupiers. This is another crime of the terrorist state," Jamala said at the concert.

It will be recalled that on May 5, 2022, Jamala presented the album Qirim, which is a collection of songs of the Qırımtatarlar.
