International Committee of the Red Cross cuts its 2024 budget by 13 per cent

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has presented measures aimed at "maximising the effectiveness of its humanitarian aid" in line with its initial budget forecast for 2024 of CHF 2.1 billion.

This is stated on the organisation's website.

The number of employees at the ICRC headquarters will be reduced by 270. ICRC delegations will have fewer opportunities to "provide assistance to those in need," the organisation says.

The decision to do so was made in view of the decline in donations it receives.

"Adjusting to this economic reality will unfortunately entail further significant staff reductions in some locations. The full impact on our delegations around the world will be known once our teams complete the budget process for 2024 in November," the organisation's statement reads.
