Iceland to provide €2 million to purchase ammunition for Ukraine
Reykjavík, Iceland (Svidomi) — Iceland joins the Czech Republic's initiative for the procurement of ammunition for Ukraine. It will allocate about €2 million for this purpose, the Ministry of Defence has announced.
"It is imperative that we continue to strongly support Ukraine, but in doing so, we contribute not only to the defence of the people of the country but also to international law in a broader context and our own security interests," says the Ministry.
Iceland will also support the purchase of equipment for women in the Ukrainian army. They will be provided with uniforms, bulletproof vests, medical and hygiene products worth about €500,000.
The Czech Republic, jointly with its partners, managed to raise part of the funds to purchase the first batch of artillery shells for Ukraine. This is 300,000 ammunition out of the 800,000 promised. The delivery is scheduled for June 2024.
