Hungarian Parliament ratifies Sweden's NATO accession

Budapest, Hungary (Svidomi) — The Hungarian parliament has voted to ratify Sweden's membership of NATO. Hungary was the only NATO member state to postpone ratification of Sweden's accession.
188 MPs voted in favour, six voted against, with no abstentions.
Hungary was the last member state to approve the enlargement.
Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Finland has since become a member, while the Swedes have been waiting for Türkiye and Hungary to ratify. Türkiye ratified Sweden's accession on January 25, 2024.
Hungary's reasons for delaying the process were formal: the parliament was busy, there was a debate in France, and a need to resolve the conflict with the Swedes and meet with the Swedish Prime Minister.
