The German government has allocated €10 million to the Council of Europe to compensate for the budget deficit caused by Russia's expulsion from the organization in March 2022.

"Russia's attack on Ukraine is also an attack on our common fundamental values. The Council of Europe needs to be stronger and more effective than ever to defend these values," the German Foreign Office said.
