General Brice Oligui Nguema, who led the coup d'état in Gabon, proclaims himself officially president

The leader of the coup d'état in Gabon has sworn in as 'transitional president'.

This is reported by AFP News.

General Brice Oligui Nguema said he would remain in office until the country is able to form a civil government.

In his speech, he promised to adopt a new constitution, as well as criminal and electoral codes.

On August 30, Gabon's military seized power, cancelled the election, which Ali Bongo won, and dissolved institutions.

These actions were condemned by the UN, the US, the UK, France and the African Union.

It will be recalled that Gabon's military junta announced that President Ali Bongo, who won the election, would be placed under house arrest.
